Please join Health Policy Student Association (HPSA) for our first General Body Meeting of the semester. Here we will have Alison Granger, MPH present on their work with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). From the GAO website, they are "an independent, nonpartisan agency that works for Congress. Often called the "congressional watchdog," GAO examines how taxpayer dollars are spent and provides Congress and federal agencies with objective, reliable information to help the government save money and work more efficiently. For example, they identified $214.7 billion in financial benefits in fiscal year 2019—a return of about $338 for every $1 invested in us. We also identified 1,418 other benefits that led to program and operational improvements across the government." The HPSA at the University of Michigan provides and supports educational and professional development opportunities for all students interested in health policy. Our members come from many disciplines and degree programs including public health, public policy, law, social work, business, medicine, dentistry, and nursing. HPSA is a place for students to participate in health policy related events including guest speakers, local and national level meetings, panel discussions, policy outreach efforts, and a variety of social activities. We're a growing organization with opportunities for leadership roles, career enhancement, skill development and networking in the health policy world. We are designated as an Interprofessional Education (IPE) organization and are a student chapter of AcademyHealth.
