Kaitlyn Leffert graduated from UMSPH in 2015, with a MPH in Environmental Quality and Health. After graduating UMSPH, Kaitlyn began work at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) as an Environmental Quality Analyst. In that role, she worked on developing administrative rules and state plans to achieve compliance with federal air pollution standards. In particular, she contributed to development of Michigan’s strategy for complying with the Clean Power Plan and determining an emission reductions strategy for the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). In 2019, Kaitlyn switched roles in EGLE and now works as an Air Inspector in the Southeast Michigan region. In her role as an inspector, Kaitlyn learns about the operations of a variety of industrial emission sources and works with them to achieve compliance and minimize their air emissions. In addition to her primary job responsibilities, Kaitlyn is also involved in EGLE’s efforts to understand and manage the environmental impacts from the rapidly developing cannabis industry. Through her work in state government, Kaitlyn has enjoyed working on both the side of regulatory development and also compliance assistance in order to protect air resources across Michigan.
