High School Students
The undergraduate program at Michigan Public Health is an upper-level degree program meaning students apply in their sophomore year and spend junior and senior year in Public Health. Students can apply as a current University of Michigan-Ann Arbor student or as a student attending another post-secondary institution in the United States.
High school students who apply to UM-Ann Arbor for freshman admission can apply to any college or school that exposes them to a breadth of coursework, including the courses which fulfill the prerequisites would be appropriate. Beyond the prerequisite courses competitive applicants often complete a diverse array of coursework. Admitted students commonly complete coursework in: anthropology, biology, earth and environmental sciences, economics, history, psychology, sociology, or women's and gender studies.
What major or area of interest should I choose when applying to UM-Ann Arbor as a first-year student?
When completing the Common Application students are asked to indicate area(s) of interest however public health is not an option. Students should select another option. Information provided in the Common Application is not shared with the School of Public Health and does not affect admission to the undergraduate public health program.
Is it okay to talk about my interest in public health in the required essays?
Yes, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions encourages first-year students to express their interest in an upper-level program on campus through the essays included in the Common Application.
