Our year of achievement and growth

Welcome to the 2023 Year in Review for the University of Michigan School of Public Health, a showcase of our achievements and growth. While we are proud of all we accomplished, everything we do year-in and year-out is in service to our pursuit of a healthier, more equitable world for all.

This year brought new heights in our research, education, leadership, and impact, driven by our committed community of scholars, staff, and students. As we close out 2023 and reflect back, we offer gratitude for the opportunity to improve the health of communities across the world once again this year.

Interdisciplinary research and transformative impact

The expertise of our faculty and researchers continues to be recognized with high levels of funding from government agencies and organizations interested in improving public health. This year, we built new collaborations within the School of Public Health, at the University of Michigan, and across communities and organizations.

Through several multi-million dollar grants, we strengthened and extended our ongoing efforts to train future public health leaders and the current public health workforce. We also expanded our academic offerings to meet new demands and we're ranked among the top 5 schools of public health in the nation.

This year, we hosted and recognized leaders in the public health field, and our faculty were recognized with top honors for their leadership and impact. In addition, we entered a new phase of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategic plan, which will feature eight strategic objectives within four key areas of action and impact: transparency and accountability, community and belonging, collaboration and partnership, and equity-focused advancement.

Public engagement and impact

In 2023, Michigan Public Health faculty and researchers continued to be go-to experts for reporters covering everything from air pollution and infectious diseases to firearm injury prevention and racial health disparities. We saw increased engagement and followers on social media, released the fifth season of the Population Healthy podcast, and distributed two more editions of our award-winning alumni magazine.
