Faculty Profile

Sarah Reeves

Sarah L Reeves, PhD, MPH

  • Assistant Professor, Epidemiology
  • Assistant Professor, Pediatrics
  • Director, Child Health Evaluation and Research Fellowship

Dr. Reeves' research is focused on identifying opportunities to improve the health of those living with sickle cell disease. She uses a wide variety of methodologies to investigate research questions using multiple, linked data sources. This results in multidisciplinary research that ties together research methods, statistical approaches, and clinical implications. She also has expertise in the development, testing, and implementation of quality measures. She is the steward of three NQF-endorsed quality measures for recommended preventive care among children with sickle cell disease: receipt of transcranial Doppler screening, appropriate antibiotic prophylaxis, and use of hydroxyurea therapy.

  • PhD, Epidemiologic Sciences, University of Michigan, 2013
  • MPH, Epidemiology, University of Michigan, 2009

Research Interests:
Sickle cell disease, public health surveillance, health disparities, quality measurement

Research Projects:
Michigan Sickle Cell Data Collection Program (MiSCDC): This project, funded by the CDC, is a collaboration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The objective of this project is to link multiple datasources to identify opportunities to reduce health disparities associated with sickle cell disease.

Opportunities to optimize the receipt of preventive services among children with sickle cell anemia: A Mixed Methods Approach: The objective of this project, which is funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), is to leverage machine learning and mixed methods to shed light on mechanisms related to receipt of preventive services among children with sickle cell anemia.
