There is a high prevalence of depression in the African race group when compared to other race groups in South Africa. One of the solutions to improve mental health outcomes is increasing mental health literacy within a population. This study investigates the level of depression literacy in an African, isiZulu-speaking population.
Thembelihle Luthuli is a lecturer at the School of Built Environment and Development Studies (SoBEDS) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. Her research interests include social epidemiology, population health and indigenous knowledge systems, population dynamics in sub-Saharan Africa and sustainable development. Thembelihle is currently a University of Michigan African Presidential Scholar (UMAPS), and she is hosted by Professor Lindsay Kobayashi from the Department of Epidemiology.
